When the weather is beautiful, almost all of the Vélib bikes are used. Vélib is the new self-service transit system. The initiative was pushed by the Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë and this bicycle service started in 2007. There are now more than 20,000 bicycles in use which makes it the largest bicycle system in the world. The Vélib stations usually are no more than 900 feet apart which makes it very convenient to pick up or drop off the bikes..
